Sign Up For "Fresh From Florida Kids" December 5 in Tallahassee
New and expectant mothers can sign up for the "Fresh From Florida Kids" healthy-eating program for babies and toddlers on December 5 in Tallahassee. The program teaches mothers of children under age three how to quickly and easily prepare healthy baby foods at home using fresh fruits and vegetables. Introducing these fresh, healthy foods at an early age can help infants and toddlers develop a preference for them, instead of sweet or salty processed foods that can lead to health problems later in life. The program is conducted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Department representatives will be on hand to sign up participants on Saturday, December 5, at the Leon County Health Department, 872 West Orange Avenue, from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. Eligible participants will receive a free kit of essential nutritional information, recipes, food preparation tools and fresh produce coupons.
The "Fresh From Florida Kids" sign up is part of the Healthy Baby Community Baby Shower hosted by the Chi Theta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. The community event informs new parents, women of childbearing age and childcare workers on the importance of prenatal care and nutrition and social services available to them. Numerous local, county and state groups will have booths for attendees to visit.
Those unable to attend the event can register for the "Fresh From Florida Kids" program online at www.FreshFromFloridaKids.com.
